Brief
As part of the celebrations for winning European Capital of Culture 2020, Galway Arts Centre opened a new exhibition space to accommodate Graphic Design exhibitions. This new wing would be on the opposite side to the existing Art wing. Art on left, Graphic Design on right, with both wings separated by a space created by the stairway. The brief was to create a work to be hung in this space.
Response
I thought to separate the work into a triptch. Left panel to represent Art, right panel to represent Graphic Design. The centre piece would connect the two. Graphic Design is often regarded as visual poetry, so it was fitting to use concrete poetry as a medium to convey what Art means, what Graphic Design means and the differences between both.
